RACE TO INFINITY WON

The infinity program, as started by leading broadband provider BT has a string of small villages and towns casting their votes in their quest to get the ultra fast fiber optic broadband that would such provide them with nothing short of mind boggling lightning fast speeds. On the overall the various communities all across England came forward casting their votes and hoping to have access to this super fast internet speed which would have otherwise taken years to come to their homes. Six of the top most areas that voted like hell quite literally were selected. Of these Two are based in Cambridge itself. These are Madingley and Caxton that have won the BT’s “Race to Infinity” competition. These were among the areas that were invited to cast their votes enthusiastically and have their area to get the privilege of having the next upgrade to super-fast broadband.

Shropshire, Oxfordshire, Hampshire and the Scottish Borders are the other regions that have the other four areas that have won the race to infinity. The race to infinity incidentally had taken place over a period of three months and ended on the last date of the year 2010. BT is anyway looking at a wide network of area that it would like to give access of its ultra fast internet to. If not for the race then these relatively small villages and towns might have not had access to the optic broadband for some years yet. While now, the lucky winners will be getting hold of the much awaited super fast internet speed by as much as the year of 2012. In the mean while the race to infinity was also received with much fan fare. As many as massive 360,000 votes were casted from all across the country.

RALPH FRIEDGEN GIVEN THE BOOT AS MARYLAND COACH

Ralph Friedgen recently went emotional publicly while at the ballroom at the Renaissance Hotel on Wednesday. Apparently he did seem calm and composed up to the moment when the media started to surround him and throw one question after another at him. His Maryland team plays in the Military Bowl this coming Wednesday. For once the man wants to keep his absolute focus on that match and would like to talk about his own removal as the team’s coach later on.

As of now before the match it wouldn’t be right if the focus is on him and the controversy regarding his removal. It might as well affect the team’s performance.
But then one asked him as to how he spent his past week and how difficult was it to digest the news for him.

Ralph couldn’t control his emotions here and his face had suddenly become visibly grim. He spoke of how he has got genuine support from friends and family who have flooded him with texts and emails. None the less for now he wants to be a bit secluded and alone.

There will soon be an end to the Friedgen era as thus in College Park. This is even as Maryland looks for a new football coach. Ralph had an 8-4 record and a bowl berth this season. He was the ACC Coach of the Year. Add to this the fact that he has had a glorious 74-50 record with seven bowl appearances in 10 years. None the less, even all this wasn’t enough.

Maryland’s performance over the past few years has only got worse with time. This was also visible in the declining number of tickets sold over the past five years for a Maryland match.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY ECOMAGINATION “TREASURE HUNT,”

Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and GE along with the city of Orlando came up with an innovative ‘treasure hunt’ which had the main motive that was to save a lot of energy.

There are energy audits done by the respective groups to keep a check and understand the consumption of energy in the various public and private facilities around the United States. They are looking at showing the many businesses or communities for that matter as to the efficiency with which energy consumption can be managed and for that matter largely saved. GE which is among the world leaders in electronic and a giant MNC, has already and potently conducted treasure hunts all within their own organization.

a Wal-Mart distribution center in Bentonville, Roosevelt Hospital in New York City, the Atlanta airport, an Allison Transmission plant in Indiana are among the centers where the treasure hunt has already been conducted. On the whole, 11 treasure hunts have been conducted yet.

For example, one of the treasure hunt as it took place at the Orlando’s Citrus Bowl had them realize that the stadium could actually do a saving of about eight percent by consuming that much less energy. The experts literally checked every aspect of the energy supply and consumption chain at the ground. Right from the sky boxes to the cheerleaders’ locker rooms were all neatly tested and surveyed accordingly.

They even continued with the testing even as matches were being played already. The Citrus Bowl was built way back in 1936. The ground itself has undergone a series of upgrades and refurbishments. It has hosted a series of events over the past many years and is a historical stadium at that. The annual Capital One, Champs Sports Bowls, annual Monster Jam are among the main attractions as held here. There re also other concerts and events that take place at the stadium.
