NEXT GENERATION REMOTE CONTROLS FROM SKY

Sky is known to be a pioneer in whatever they do. The first generation of set top boxes to the recent High Definition phenomenon, the many sky features and products to the father of them all, Sky 3D, the company has been synonymous with them. Sky not long ago crossed the ten million subscribers mark.

But now it aims to scale even greater heights and not rest on its past laurels. Constantly pushing itself to get the best of technology to its subscribers, Sky is apparently taking inspiration from the next generation advanced mobile devices. The smart phones and tablets which have taken the world by storm may as well be the source of inspiration for the new remote controls that Sky may come up with for its subscribers.

There were speculations going on for some time in regards to this. None the less, in a recent meeting, Brian Lenz, director of TV Product Development, Sky, made things very much clear. He stated that the current breed of advanced mobile devices need not necessarily be opportunities to capitalize on in terms, coming up with technologies for content presentation or for that matter even remote controlling. At the heart of things, Sky simply looks at a person enjoying his TV viewing experience to the optimum with minimal hurdles.

Sky is as it is offering an iPhone app which has viewers viewing and setting programs to record on Sky’s planner and TV Guide. This may be done from anywhere. But when it comes to directly controlling the TV, there is no such application for that. There is no saying as to what the future has in store for people. Touchscreen for once, isn’t the only option.

There are also methods of controlling with cameras and other similar radical methods all the time being invented. None the less, as for the rumor of Sky presenting a tablet/handset direct control input, it all depends on the choice of people and how it is they would like to control their idiot box.
