3D TV SALES READ 3.2 MILLION UNITS IN THE LAST YEAR

The 3D TV sets were unveiled with much fanfare in early 2010. There was a lot of enthusiasm, and anxiousness as to how the TV performs among the viewers. There were glimpses given of how good the technology is and the ones who got a chance to view the 3D format simply fell for it big time. They just wanted more and more of it. The recent times have also seen the release of mega 3D hits like Despicable Me, Saw 3D, Avatar, Alice In Wonderland to just name a few. But then when it finally boiled down to the sales of 3D TV sets, they were far underwhelming when compared with the high expectations. The two main reasons behind this is that they are ultra expensive and that there isn’t enough 3D content available and provided by the broadcasters.

Research firm DisplaySearch went on to the extent of stating as of how the determinant behind the success rate of the 3D TV sets in the future will be the amount of 3D content that is in the offering from broadcasters. Paul Gray, director of TV electronics research at DisplaySearch, spoke of how the TV makers looked way too much into the future and couldn’t comprehend the simple fact that if there isn’t enough 3D content available people simply won’t buy it.

None the less all will accept the fact that in the near future the 3D TV sets are bound to get cheaper and people will then opt for them. Even the TV makers and broadcasters have still not given up hope on 3D TV Technology. As many as eighteen million 3D sets will be shipped in the year 2011, this number is much better than the earlier year. Then again the shipment will continue to rise in numbers, going up to over ninety one million in 2014.
